Gear Ratio help!!

Alright so I'm looking into stepping up to the next level on my gear ratio, I know its currently at either a 2.77 or a 3.27, I'm not too sure which one though. The 3.27 was an option and I was never informed on rather not i have said option.

With that being said, what do you guys think would be a good next step for my gear ratio? I would like a little more off the line and still wouldn't mind having a nice highway speed.

Any advice would help and some advice on the actual installation and maybe a particular brand would be nice as well!
Thank you guys and galls!!!!

Re: Gear Ratio help!!

best and most common for street and strip is 3.73. but, if you have 2.77 right now you will need a new carrier. if you have 3.27 you will be fine.

Also those ratio's are for a BW 9-Bolt and gears & ratios are slim. No 10-Bolt parts will fit, nothing is compatible between the two.

Re: Gear Ratio help!!

Before you go any farther you MUST know what gears you have right now. There is no point in doing anything else until you know what you have. What parts you need will depend on what gear is in the rear end now.

Also be sure that you have the 9 bolt Borg Warner rear end. If you have a 10 bolt and order parts for the 9 bolt then you will have to return everything and order more parts.

I just found out that I do have the 2.77 gear ratio, not sure if its the 9 bolt borg warner or the 10 bolt and not entirely sure on how to find out?
So with that being said, where do i go from here? Should i take the next step up? And if so, what are the steps i should take to make that happen?

Thanks again!!

I have found out that I do in fact have the 2.77. So if I decide to step up to the 3.73, does that mean i will for sure need a new carrier? what sort of mechanical work comes long with that? and would it be expensive?

Thanks a lot!!

Re: Gear Ratio help!!

Yes, you need a new differential, and yes, it will be expensive. If you could find another rear end with the 3.27 gears it might be cheaper to build it.

The 10 bolt has 10 bolts in the cover and the 9 bolt has 9 bolts in the cover with a rubber plug close to the center.
