lsx swap trans question.
I have looked every where and cant find exactly what i am looking for. I am doing an ls swap in my 83 crossfire camaro. Im doing a stroked lq4 408. I have been looking all over for trans questions and answers. I currently have a t-5 wanting to go t56 i have heard that the lt1 t56 wont fit an ls motor due to input shaft and bell housing and an ls1 t56 will bolt right up but then i have read that the 2 trannys are different lengths and that my driveshaft wont fit an ls1 t56. Os this true at all? Or can you buy a drivehshaft for this conversion and not have to have one custom built?

Re: lsx swap trans question.
Speaking of F-body units only:
The 3 parts of the case are the same length, 93-02.
The 93-97 bellhousing is shorter than 98-02; not by much but I don't have that number handy.
The input shaft length on any 93-97 F T56 is shorter than 98-02.
The 98-02 input is a direct swap to a 94-97 only.
Regarding re-using a third-gen driveshaft, while it's likely your stock one would work with the LS / T56, you should always measure that sort of thing to be sure.

Snapp, like JMD, i would measure drive shaft just to be sure. the one thing i don't know if you are aware of is the differences in the LQ4's. the '99 and '00 have a longer crankshaft than the '01 and up. if you have the '99 or '00 model, you will have issues getting the LS1 T56 to bolt up due to this as they were designed for the shorter crankshaft. i don't think a LT1 T56 would bolt up to it since i think they changed the bolt pattern on the crankshaft from the earlier small blocks so the LT1 flywheel may not even bolt up.
