Changing Rear End
Changing Rear End
I have a 1992 camaro rs with an older 350 v8 swapped in. It was rebuilt a few thousand miles ago, was bored 30 over, has hypereutectic pistons, edelbrock performer 750 carb, edelbrock rpm intake, world product 2.02/1.60 heads, hedman headers, straight pipes with cat delete, 2500 stall, turbo 350 with a shift kit and ratchet shift. It has the stock 2.73 rear end and i want to change it to a 3.73. I'm a major noob when it comes to this and i don't know what i need to do the change, besides the gears obviously. Help?

Re: Changing Rear End
I did much of what Ron USMC did to his 10 bolt (I added LPW Brace and solid pinion spacer).... at the same time I also switched out to Founders LCA's with 3 way poly joints.... yes, it was expensive, but due to all new parts, the car rides so much smoother / less harsh than before (like my Honda Accord)(I have Bilstein's and Subframe connectors, etc...)
My neighbor has a 89 305 TPI Iroc... 2.77 rear.... I gave him my old rear end... It was out of a 91 Formula 5 speed, 3.42, Posi, 28 Spline axles, he Loves it!
If budget is limited, get a 3.42 out of a 90 - 92... they have the 28 spline (stronger) axles, before then they had 26...
To go from a 2.77 to 3.73 you would need all new internals, since they are different series...

From a 2.73 with open differential to a 3.42 with an Eaton posi.

On top of that the open wheel's tire is nearly bald. I cant imagine how fast this car could be if i change those few things.
I also have an MSD 6al box laying around here that i should probably install.
Re: Changing Rear End
Actually i'm not even sure anymore. The guy originally told me it had a 2.77 and i thought it was a 2.73 but now i'm seeing other things online. I'll just have to look when i get home.
