To correct the speedo on the digital dash car, do I change the speedo gears just like a normal car? Or is there something different that has to be done since it uses a vss?

 

So I guess I have to change the gears. Called to order some after looking at the transmission gears and they appear to be normal gears. Guy told me I needed a special gear that is no longer produced. Do I need a special gear or do I need the normal cable gears?

If it is still the original transmission, not swapped out for a newer trans like a T-56 then yes it is a gear swap. If you swapped out to a newer trans such as the T-56 then you would have to use a box like the Dakota Digital box shown in the video.

 

If it's the intellitronix digital dark spend the extra 100 bucks and go GPS speedo

 

your car uses a electric speedo sending unit that was used from 84-89 in Camaro/Firebird/Corvettes. Maybe others too but I know it was used in those cars.

Cable type speedo gears and Electric type speedo gears are NOT the same.

( I am not SURE if the later 90-92 electric speedo sending units use the same speedo gears as the early 84-89 electric sending units or not ! )

You also need to be sure to use the Sending unit that is rated for the new Driven gear being installed onto it. See this pic to see where the range of gear tooth counts that fit is located on the sending unit.

 

Yes, gears. Some steel shaft speedo gears have the gear on them that fits your electric speedo sender.

What speedo gears does it have?
What rear gears?
What tire size?
