LS1 T56
LS1 T56
I came across a T56 out of a 2004 vette. It needs a new 2nd gear syncro for 200 bucks. I have no plans of mating it with an LS1 engine. He has the LT1 bell housing and a flexplate as well. Is 350 bucks a good deal for all of this if i'm not going to put it with an LS1? I'm probably just going to mate it with a factory 5.7l TPI motor.

Re: LS1 T56
Others will chime in on this for sure, but I dont think it will work without more parts. The vette t56's dont mount to the engine, they are mounted towards the rear and a torque tube mates it to the engine with a shaft in the middle of the tube. So I'm pretty sure you would have to get a different input shaft and tailshaft to mount in your car. I could be wrong, but with the extra pieces needed, may not be the best deal.

There is a significant amount of work involved in converting to suit the SBC. You're looking at about a grand in parts for conversion and the synchro. And most of a complete rebuid in time / labor, not including any damage found; nor basic rebuild parts. There are a number of ways to make it fit, but probably not with the stock driveshaft.

Buy it, fix it, sell it, use the cash to buy something else that fits your car.
