85 TA rear end on an 88 Formula?

Local guy is selling a 85 'WS6' TA disc brake rear end (axel, diff, rotors, pads, etc) its in a bit of a rough shape from sitting outside for a while, but my 88 Formula has drum brakes on the rear.

Are disc brakes that much better than drums to warrant the 50$ he wants for the rear end?
Will the rear end from an 85 TA even work on an 88 Formula?

Thanks!

Do you even know what gear ratio is in the other rear? What kind of shape is yours in?

Mine is rusty and leaking gear/brake fluid. (both, not or)
Inquiring about the gear ratio now...
Why is there no 'factory standard' for these parts, everything seems to vary...

The disc brakes are not really any better on the street. The '88 is going to have the crappy cast iron calipers. I wouldn't bother. You are going to have to change some other parts to make them work. It will probably cost you several hundred dollars to get everything fixed and working right. If it was a '90 to '92 rear end then I'd say go for it.

Email I got from him:
It does have a tag on the cover that says "Limited Slip Gear Lube Only" so it's pretty likely a LSD.
My car with the drum brakes is the 88, the rear end is from an 85 with the disc brakes. Does that make a difference?

The '88 will be the 7.6 and the '85 will be the 7.5. Both will have 26 spline axles. Those disc brakes are not really an advantage.
