richmond 6 speed questions

heys guys im new here but my question is why is my Richmond 6 speed so weird. I am a big foxbody mustang guy but my dad is a chevy guy and I picked up a 87 iroc just too mess around with something else but my point is that the tranny is so hard to shift into certain gears sometimes. When I first started driving it about a week ago, I bought it two weeks ago 5th and 6th were so hard to get into but now 4th is really hard but if im in 6th and downshift its a lot easier to get into 4th but if I start in 1st and go from 3rd to 4th sometimes it wont even go in I have to shift to 5th then downshift to 4th. Anyone have any idea what is causing this? No grinding, checked the linkage on outside of tranny is all good. Any help would be much appreciated

Re: richmond 6 speed questions

Multiple gear shift troubles point to clutch release.

When new, the Long shifter on those was a dream.

I would make sure 4th is solidly shifting the outside lever fully, verify clutch release and talk to Gforce, who bought Longs, for tips.

Re: richmond 6 speed questions

If the Richmond 6-speed is anything like their 5-speed, it is typical. I found that double clutching on down shifts is helpful, and up shifting with higher engine RPM is helpful.

The fluid used also makes a big difference. I've found that straight non-detergent 30W motor oil with a tube of GM posi additive provides for the best shifting.
