installing newer transmission, swapping speedo gear housings, what gasket set>?
Hey guys,
I'm installing a newer model 700R in my 84 and the newer transmission has the electronic speedometer in it. I need to swap over the part on the new transmission with my current mechanical speedometer set up so it will work on my 84. I'm wondering what all that entails and what, if any gasket set I should get for that particular part?
Thanks in advance!

The outer diameter has an o-ring; probably still listed as Delco. Maybe aftermarket too.
Against the gear in the I.d. of the speedo gear sleeve, you will find one or two small lip seals (like a micro version of a TH350 ooutput seal kinds.) Those are going to be tougher to find but I have had luck at Napa.
Any new seal in those can use a bit of vaseline or trans. assy. lube.
If you remove the tailsection to change a gear, that square cut seal is more than likely going to be fine and re-useable.
If the old parts don't leak, maybe run 'em?

Should I just pull my tail housing from my 84 in its entirety and swap it over instead?

Yes. Solves the torque arm mounting also. Direct interchange. No problem.
