T5 Transmission
Hey everyone,
I just purchased a 92 Firebird 5 speed and it actually came with a four-speed Borg Warner Super T 10 transmission. I am racing the car and the class I am in requires the stock T5 transmission. Does anyone know if the super t10 and t5 transmission uses the same crossmember and the same length driveshaft?
Also if anyone has a freshly rebuilt t-5 I'm interested in purchasing.
Thanks
John

Re: T5 Transmission
Yes we do; and no they do not.
Hard to say what you'd have to do to go back to a T-5, without knowing how the T-10 was hacked into the car. FOR SURE, the crossmember, drive shaft, and torque arm (or its mounting, or even its presence) have been altered in some way; and most likely, you'd also need a bell housing and clutch actuation system as well.
The devil will be in the details.

Re: T5 Transmission
Pictures aren't real informative.
Get up under your car. There should be 3 bolt holes in the "frame" for a crossmember. Your T-10 crossmember is probably bolted to the front and middle ones. A T-5 one bolts to the middle and rear ones. As you lay up under there, won't be hard to see what the problem, or rather the opportunity for a solution, is. (or isn't, if you're lucky... don't bet on it)

They pop up in the classifieds every once in a while. I got mine from a member here. Cost about $70 to ship from texas to NY I would check with
