Parking brake cables

Hi guys,

I have been lurking for a bit as I recently purchased a 1990 T/A with 59K miles. The P/O installed a rear out of a Z28 with 3.73 gears, posi and disc brakes. My problem is that my local parts store does not show any difference between the left and right cables. This rear has the drivers side actuator pointing towards the rear and the passenger's side actuator points to the front, so there is a significant difference in length.

Any thoughts/comments would be appreciated.

TIA

Geoff

Hey, Geoff, welcome to TGO.

The rear end gears you describe were only available in 83-86 cars (the calipers went through 88), so ordering any of those years should be good. The issue, however, is that our cars through 88 had tunnel-mounted adjusters for the parking brake. Your 90 would be self-adjusting, so you may have to install the earlier version parking brake to mate everything up.

I wonder if the PO swapped the combination valve?

James-that's great info, thanks. I will contact the PO and see what he did. This is not my first Firebird but is my first 3rd Gen, so I have a steep learning curve to go through. By the way, I picked this up for $1500 which I thought was a steal. It is cleaner underneath than my 02 530i, which is saying something.
