Which ones will, which ones won't? Please include manual transmissions too!
I have a 350 from around that year and I have had it connected to a 200 auto and now it is connected to a T5. Only problem is that the dip stick is on the driver and this has forced me :-) to get headers and a cross pipe from the same manufacturer.

All chev engines have the same bolt pattern. All chev trannys have the chev bolt pattern. Some may have a dual polt pattern so that they can be attached to Olds, Pontiacs and Buicks also.
You'll need the proper ring gear or flywheel depending on the engine used. SBC 400 and BBC 454 are externally balanced. The TH400 tranny's torque converter has a wider mounting bolt pattern. Most stock flexplates or flywheels don't have the dual bolt pattern to allow a TH400 torque converter to bolt on. You could just use a TH350 torque converter instead.
When using a manual transmission, you need the proper bellhousing for the vehicle. A third gen bellhousing is different from other GM's because of how the clutch fork is attached at an angle. When using a manual transmission you also need to install a pilot bearing into the back of the crankshaft.
