406 w/T56..what flywheel??
I am looking at getting a T56 swapped into my 85 Camaro which used to be a 700R4 and is now a TH350. I guess I am familiar with the swap with a 350 or a 305, so that doesn't concern me. What does is what flywheel to use with the 406. My motor is internally balanced.
Thanks!!
Dave

Both the t56 flywheel and the 400 flywheel are externaly balanced but other than that I don't know if the bolt pattern would be correct. IE the alijnment dow pin in the crank is the same.

The 400 has a 2-piece rear main seal, the T-56 flywheel is designed to bolt to a 1-piece RMS crank. The bolt patterns are very different. There is no possibility of any stock T-56 flywheel working.
It might be possible to get a good quality 153-tooth 400 flywheel from one of the few aftermarket mfrs such as Centerforce (they may be the only one) and drill the T-56 clutch pattern in it. I'm not sure what if anything is different about a T-56 clutch compared to a 10.4" one.
