Engine or Transmission first?

I bought a 1986 z28 Camaro a few years ago and it has slowly been worked on. Engine was rebuilt. Once it was somewhat ready to test drive the tranny gave out after driving it for 10 mins. I am trying to see if I should get the engine wiring completely done before I even worry about the tranny? Because there is wires hanging everywhere. Also when we put the car on the jack the tires spin but once we set it back down the car don't go no where and it just revs

Agreed. Figure out your wiring first. Once that's all done and presentable get your tranny in.
