Rebuilt my transmission
Well after a full season of the abuse of running low 8's and countless street miles I decided it would be a good idea to rebuild my transmission and upgrade a few components while it was apart.
Started by pulling it apart and measuring everything. The transmission started life as a transmission specialties pro line 2500, that I switched over to a roller tail when I bought it.

Upon initial inspection everything looked ok, other then the band which was burnt up. High gear clutch pack clearance was nearly 0.125" while the reverse clutch pack was around 0.065". The high gear steels and clutches were showing a little bit of heat, so they also went on the list to replace.

I had a bunch of good friends give me some parts to help with the rebuild, the first being a wide HD band.

Another buddy noticed I was still running a Ringed input shaft, and gave me a TCI pro x gerotor aluminum pump, and a TCI pro x ring less input shaft.

Also ordered a sonnax pin guided servo piston kit from hutch.

The rest of the parts to complete the rebuild. Gasket kit, filter, 8 red alto frictions, and 8 kolene steels

Started putting it all back together, re-used the steels and frictions in the reverse clutch pack. Had to change the high gear drum due to some end play issues, and ended up with 0.065" clearance with 8 frictions, and 8 steels. I know this is a little tight but from the research I did, it should be ok.

The old pump had been machined for the Torrington bearing, with the TCI pump, I had to switch to a drum that had been machined for the Torrington bearing. When all was said and done, I had 0.012" end play.
New tcs roller governor support.

I also tapped the valve body to log converter charge pressure (both in and out) along with line pressure in my Holley and built a fitting to weld into the pan to install the pressure sensor.

All together!

Let me know if you guys have any input. This was my first transmission rebuild, and I think it went fairly well

Re: Rebuilt my transmission
I have two comments ;
First , Great Job !!! That transmission looks so clean it's amazing !
Second , you mentioned Transmission Specialities screwing you on a warranty , and yet you still have their name in your car info on your profile . You may want to edit their name out of your info so people don't see it and think your all OK with them ?

Re: Rebuilt my transmission
I hate when a company won't stand behind their product. I once had a COMP cam fail all at once at just under 5000 street miles in a mild 350. Lost 8 lobes within about 50 miles. They wouldn't even refund me for the cam AND tried to tell me I must have done something wrong. As it turns out the cam somehow missed the hardening process and the core itself was a pathetic excuse with many air pockets. I'LL NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM COMP CAMS AGAIN!

Awesome trans rebuild thread so far, especially for your twin turbo build!
I'm ignoring the trash talking on any company that supports 3rd Gen Camaro's. That **** doesn't belong here.

Transmissions look daunting until you get into it. It's not that hard. Just got to keep everything clean. Freaking beautiful job man!
