Torque arm and transmission problems

I have an 1983 camaro that I'm doing a swap from the v6 stock motor to a 1979 350 chevy small block out of a 79 camaro that I rebuilt. I bought myself a brand new transmission from http://www.bmracing.com/products/113...350-chevrolet/ .When I got the transmission in today I realized that there is no place to attach the torque arm to the transmission. I don't know what I should do at this point. Should I change the rear suspension to leaf springs or should I change the tailshaft and put a used one on the with the proper mounting? If anyone could help I will be very grateful!

Re: Torque arm and transmission problems

My recommendation would be to use a relocation bracket to move the torque arm to the crossmember rather than the tail housing. Here is an example, although there are other brands, etc. Some relocation brackets do require the use of the proprietor's torque arm, but some are universal (ie, you can use a stock torque arm with some).

Re: Torque arm and transmission problems

you could also find a tailshaft from a Monza or Vega with a TH250 or TH350 trans and use that to mount the torque arm... but the aftermarket crossmember is going to be easier to find and better..

Re: Torque arm and transmission problems

I part out third gens and just picked up a car yesterday that has the Spohn adjustable torque arm, th-350 crossmember, and driveshaft loop. This gets the torque arm off of the tailshaft of trans and mounts it to the crossmember

This one here, but in black rather than red. http://www.spohn.net/shop/1982-1992-...nsmission.html

New with all the mounting hardware Spohn sells them for $466.90, plus $14.95 shipping.

I'll take $350 shipped for it.
Here is the best pics I have as of right now, but if interested I will get you some better ones.

Re: Torque arm and transmission problems

if you use a th350 with a 9" tailhousing, you can use a stock driveshaft from any 700r4 tranns.

if your creative enough, you'll be able to mount the torque arm mount. welding and fabrication skills are a must.
