Does anyone know with 100% certainty if a carrier/gearset out of a 4th gen 10 bolt will work in a 3rd gen housing? from what I can gather it looks like it will, but I want to be sure. Thanks!

 

Yes, it will work as long as the axle splines arfe the same. All of the 4th gen 7.6 rear ends had 28 spline axles. The 3rd gen cars had 26 spline axles up to '90 and then they had 28 spline axles. All of the internal parts from a 7.6 will fit the 7.5 as long as the axles match. You can use '90 to '92 28 spline axles in the earlier rear ends that had 26 spline axles.

 

Thanks for your expertise Gear Head. I'm putting together a 10 bolt for my 86" T/A. I pulled the Auburn unit I have apart to find that it has a cracked cone. I was planning n buying a gear set for it, but I found a low mile Torsen unit with 3:42 gears for about the same price so I pulled the trigger, just wanted to make sure it would work!

 

Yup, it'll work, as long as you use 90-92 axles.
