Transmission Leak
Transmission Leak
New Member with Trans Problem. '86 IROC with 700r4 Trans. Put in a rebuilt exchange Trans last year, soon after it would leak very badly after a drive, sometimes right away, sometimes not for a couple of hours. After investigating situation I came to the conclusion that I had overfilled the trans. I took care of that problem and it seemed to be OK. This summer I put in a B&M shift kit and a deep pan. Instructions between the two said add 8 quarts of fluid,6 for the shift kit.two for the deep pan. I am back to the same situation. in fact I started the car recently, backed it out of the garage washed it,pulled it back in,next day, trans fluid on the garage floor. Do you think something was put together wrong from the beginning and it was masked by my oversite of overfilling trans?? It seems to be a situation where it leaks after maybe building up pressure. Just a thought. Any Suggestions out there? Thanks in advance
If it didn't leak before the pan was changed, I would look for
a break in the edge of the pan gasket. If you put it on jackstands
(all four wheels off the ground) and wash the suspected areas with brake cleaner, the leak should be easy to find. Just don't
run it too long, or you will have to start over.

Trans Leak
Nordbert The leak is coming from the dipstick tube, this is not "just a leak" because it does not leak all the time, as my first post says. It leaks whenever it wants to,making me think it is some internal problem. Plater Tom
For starters, two points. One, B&M does NOT make a shift kit.
Two, what is the level on the dipstick when hot? That is the ultimate guide regardless of instructions, assuming that you have the correct dipstick in place.
