Found a WC T5 for sale, the id tag thats bolted onto them is gone. How can you confirm its from a V8 ?

I'm specifically looking for one from 88-92.

Someone who has a trans shop told me that without the ID tag you cannot confirm what car it was originally in...hopefully that's not true.
