4L80E shift wiring idea
So I got my 4L80E from a '98 or '99 C3500 2wd 7.4L, and it has a big plastic thing around the shift linkage, to tell the PCM what gear you want. That has a bunch of wires coming out of it, maybe a dozen.
It seems it will be simple enough to label each of those wires, then use a multimeter to test continuity in each shift detent, to make a chart of which wires for which gear.
The pinout for the other connector is all over the internet, so it seems a full-manual wireup could be successfully done for the cost of some electrical tape?
It would all be in the tunnel, well forward of the torque arm, nowhere near the exhaust, very safe.
Sure, you would have to move the shifter in the car for every upshift and every downshift, but this should be a $5 solution, right?

Probably not, will need something to convert the 3 range signals to signals to drive the proper shift solenoids. Then something to control the line pressure. Here is the range switch signaling.

Re: 4L80E shift wiring idea
TransGo has figured out how to do a vacuum modulator conversion to the 4L80E, I plan to copy it, just this once, for myself.
Thanks for the diagram.
I've been looking at some rotary electrical switches with 7 positions for twist-**** shifting.
Other than that, I was thinking I could wire it direct, maybe include some low-amp inline fuses?
I'm not understanding why there would need to be any signal conversion?
Dakota digital offers a variety of signal converters, but they're all super expensive.
I got the idea from a guy who does this for the late-'90s Cherokees with the AW4. Those have a TCM separate from the ECM. I'm not sure I could adapt that TCM, but the AW4 is fully-electronic shifting by solenoids, same as the 4L80E.
Whatever I come up with, I have a good 4L60E I could test it on, in my '94 Camaro, with a misfiring-but-running 3.4L that will be swapped for my other 4.8L LS in a few months.
