T5 parts list

new here, have a 88 firebird 305 auto quadrajet no computer. I recently acquired a T5 out of an 89 camaro. I know i need the pedals, but does anyone have an exact list of all the parts I need? I am going to slowly collect my parts until I have everything needed to do the swap. Also, what should I look over or check on this used T5 that I got? Since I have it out I would like to freshen it up some, a reseal? Dont think I will do a full rebuild, But whats the best (and most affordable) way to reseal this thing?

Re: T5 parts list

I can't find an exact list, but I'll give you everything I can remember off the top of my head. AFAIK your crossmember and driveshaft should be interchangeable for auto and manual transmissions.
t5 trans
clutch, flywheel, pressure plate
Pilot bearing
clutch Master and slave cylinder and hydraulic lines to operate the clutch
Pedals
Shifter plate
And all the miscillaneous hardware to bolt it together. I had the guy I bought my t5 from give me everything out of his parts car, so that made it easy. It will be kind of a pain to buy all the hardware separate.
thats all I can think of right now. As far as opening and resealing the trans, unless your an expert I would just take it to a trusted mechanic and let them do it. That way they can also look and see what might be worn out. Shouldn't be horribly expensive and it's reassuring to know if you've got any problems or not.

Look at your t5 and make sure it has electric speedo. It can be a pain to find nice good looking a manual plate for your console. Should be worth the struggle though, going manual has been one of my favorite changes to my car.

Re: T5 parts list

not a fan of shops lol I will do all the work. I'm just wondering if I should buy a gasket set to reseal or can I use rtv? Looks like trans has been open before bc it looks like it's sealed up with gray Rtv. Also how would I check if it's electronic speedo? There is a electric connection on side. And ok now I have an idea what parts I need. Definitely ready for the swap.

Re: T5 parts list

The seal at the front in the b.r. is easy. Don't drop the shims or race out of the bearing retainer. Re-seal the retainer to the case with ultra black RTV; grey does nothing better in this application and is just more effort to remove.

The tail seal is cheap and easy; TH350 seal.

The speedo gear teeth should be counted and inspected for wear. You can buy an aftermarket VSS that will thread onto the speedo gear bullet. 89 Camaro is cable drive.

The drain and fill are NPT; don't add sealant. And don't remove the oddball torx bolt, that's for shifter linkage inside.

You could pop the tail housing and then the shift rail / top cover of you totally wanted to look inside. Or, skip all that crap, add the VSS, and see if it drives okay and if it leaks.
