Corvette servo on an old-unknown 700r4?

I have found an old 700r4 which coming from a '83 camaro for my rolling shell 84 camaro.
I don't know if it works or not, but I had it for a low price and I needed to have at least the camaro tailhousing. The tranny had sit in a heated garage for last 2 years.

I want to install the tranny on the car after doing an oil and filter change and see what happens. Worse case scenario, if the tranny have problems, i will pull it back and send it for a rebuild, but I think it worth trying it.

I don't know the mileage of the tranny, but it have a an old sticker from a garage so I assume it had been rebuild at least one time in last 34 years.

Do you think it's a good idea to install a corvette servo for 20$ to make the tranny more strong? I have a limited budget and my engine is a completely stock 305, with 145hp. I will use the car for daily driving.

Does a corvette servo worth it and do you think it will extend the life of the tranny? (assuming it is in 'OK' condition). Or maybe it is risky to make more damage to this old tranny if I install a corvette servo?

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Re: Corvette servo on an old-unknown 700r4?

People do that all the time to "unknown" 700s (and 4L60Es) that come in used vehicles etc., with generally good results.

Like anything, there's no 100% guarantee; but for that one, it comes pretty close.

Yes in general it will help the transmission last longer. Almost anything that makes one shift quicker, short of breaking parts from slamming into a gear, will do that, since they only wear (significantly) DURING shifts, not while simply IN gear. Won't make it "more strong"; will simply make it last longer.

I put one in mine and really like it.
If you decide to put it in this is helpful.

I don't know exactly how are the internals in the 700r4, but I'm wondering if a corvette servo could put more stress and oil pressure on circuits, raising the chances of blowing an old seal in the transmission?
But according to the clutchs and bands condition, i'm sure it's only benefits.

Installing the Corvette servo will make the 1-2 shift a little if replacing a 553 servo. If a 554 servo, then the shift will be even more firmer. The 2-3 shift will be helped even more, as this is what GM designed it for, to improve the life of the 3-4 clutches with a quicker 2-3 shift
