A clutching problem

A Clutch question

Late last year my clutch started slipping. Instead of waiting till it got really bad I took the car to my mech.

The before. Clutch would engage normally about 2 or so inches off the floor. Would slip into gear like a greased pig at a rodeo.

Clutch replaced.

The after. It now engages almost at the top and to get reverse you would have to go to 5th first to slow down the shaft. Also going into gear it was a solid push not real easy.
So I took it back and talked to the mech and said lets go ahead and put in a new master and slave. (good fore thought on my part, should have done it all at once.)
Anyway got it back and reverse slides right in and 1-5 the same. Engaging again off the floor not at the top.

So now several weeks ago I noticed that sometimes trying to go into 2nd and maybe 3rd it would pop back into neutral. So clutch in again and it shifts ok.

Then going for some short drives recently the shifting at first is almost normal and became harder once the car got to operating temp. Requiring a solid shift to select whatever gear.( Almost not) Also not going directly again going into reverse. When after pulling into the garage and going thru the gears sometimes pulling it out of 1st you have to pull it into neutral, feels like it is sticking in first. With the clutch pedal in.

Car 1990 GTA 305 5 speed. Tranny a MK6.

Any ideas and help greatly appreciated. The car will be going back next Wed. for
California smog and getting this problem addressed.

Thanks in advance

Bob

Update as of April 26 2017

I dropped the car off at the shop. What the mechanic found is this. His words.

Found pivot pin backing out of bell housing. Screwed it back in and tightened it. After test drove and now clutch pedal feels normal and reverse feel normal.

Now I have to get used to a slightly different pedal engagement point. It is surprising how the body learns where certain points are. The clutch feels great.
I do wonder why the pin backed out. But if I have problems in the future I will have a place to start.
