TH400 in a 82 Trans Am?
TH400 in a 82 Trans Am?
I recently got a running driving 82 firebird for dirt cheap. Some local shadetree mechanic swapped the 305 with a late 60's 350 and turbo 400 trans. It seems to be quite a hack job, one side of the trans cross member is booger welded to the frame rail. I also found the torque arm bracket is missing; someone used a piece of 1/4 angle iron in it's place. My question biggest question is, how sketchy is this? I've only worked on full frame cars and trucks, nothing with a torque arm. Also, would a stock F body torque arm bracket work instead? With minor modifications? I'm sure it's a TH400, and I'm assuming the dementions are different than stock. No unusual noises other than a violent clunk into reverse once in a while; I've been told this might be the rear end. Anyone that's done this swap know the right way to do it? Trying to not spend 400 bucks on an aftermarket torque arm
