1983 correct flywheel
Picked up a 1997 350 4 bolt main for $20 . Guy though it was a 305. Always check your casting #s . Anyway got a t5 for a transmission and want advice on a flywheel. The hole 1 piece seal and internal and external balance stuff. I figured a 1987 camaro flywheel would do the trick, but thought I better ask to make sure. Any tricks tips or headaches to look out for or advice would be appreciated .

You'll find there are 2... one is 22 lbs and was used in commuter econoboxes (LG4 and L03). The other is about 16 lbs and was used in the more performance-like applications (LB9). You'll probably want the lighter one.
Buy REAL flywheel bolts. Don't try to fake it with home-improvement store stuff. Nr Gasket, ARP, and various others, all have them for very few $$$.

Re: 1983 correct flywheel
Thanks for the reply. ARP bolts is good advice I put some in with a Ram clutch and urethane mount awhile back. How much horsepower will the trans take before it fails. My 305 was dynoed at just over 300hp . It held up just fine even with a occasional 25 hp nitrous shot . But I 've heard horror stories, and since I'm going to put most of the same goodies on the 350 it should be closer to 350 hp (maybe). Thanks again

You can make one live for years behind a 400 (I have); you can tear it up in a matter of days with a stock 305 (I have, more times than I can recall); I even hear you can tear one up with a stock 6-cyl although I've never even seen one of those let alone tore up a T-5 with one. It's all in how you drive it.
It will last longer if you avoid shock loading. Which means, NO big smoky clutch dumps, NO speed shifting, NO sticky tires with traction. Drive it like there's an egg in the drive train (because there IS), and KEEP IT FULL OF FLUID, and it may last quite a long time. Pretend you're your grandma going to church on Sunday morning. ALWAYS. It's probably already too late but w/e.

Re: 1983 correct flywheel
Well thanks again. I'm running royal purple rite now. I've tried some other fluids this just seems to work so far. I've been pretty decent to it only hard on it at the track, and never spraying from a dead start. So maybe I've been lucky. I was thinking of dropping the juice and putting and rear mounted turbo. So maybe it's just time to upgrade to a t56.
