Auto to manual swap -- T56 or T6060

Hey guys, I have a 84 Z28 and pulled out the engine a few months ago. I have a 03 LQ9 that I've been wanting to put in, but need a transmission to go with it since I'm tossing the auto. I know the go-to is the T56, but is there a reason that the T6060 won't work or isn't as popular? I'll more than likely get a T56 in a few months or hopefully sooner if I can find one locally (Central/South Texas) for less than $1k. I was just curious about everyone's thoughts regarding the T6060.

The t6060 is just a updated version of the t-56, but it's not going to have the torque arm mount, and you might need a custom length drivesshaft for it, since you are putting in a lq9, I would get a T-56 out of a LS F-body (98-02) and an adapter crossmember, and everything ells should be a blot in, you can take out the factory master cylinders carefully tap the roll pin out and swap slave cylinders (it worked on an LT style, I believe the LS uses the same master just a slave throwout bering) or read up on how to modify the the linkage on the T-56 master to fit the stock pedels

Re: Auto to manual swap -- T56 or T6060

Thanks lewandom for the reply. I did some looking around out of curiosity on the T6060 and there wasn't much info, at least for installing them in 3rd gens. I figured it because they're too new, relatively speaking, and that's given the T56 a chance to cement itself in as THE trans to get. Thanks for the comment about the 98-02 T56. I was looking for any one that I could get, but if that year range is best, then that's what I'll look for.

Yeah if you were doing a regular small block I would say an LT version (93-97) because the flywheel and crank are the same but when they went to the LS (98-02) they changed the distance the crank sticks out of the block and they made it a hydraulic throwout bearing style clutch, it requires a bunch of mods to fit a regular small block, but if you are using a LS already everything should bolt up other than the crossmember (a bunch of manufactures sell adapter crossmembers) and the clutch pedal, which is an easy fix

Re: Auto to manual swap -- T56 or T6060

The production car TR6060 has a lot of differences in bellhousing depth, driveline connection, and shifter setup. They can be made to directly fit an F-body but at expense.

The T56 Magnum is a TR6060. One of those, and the torque arm mount should be moved to a crossmember mount, shorten the driveshaft and go. The shifter isn't in too bad a spot either.
