700R4 Not releasing from park / Losing power in Drive
Hey guys, I'm having pretty weird issues with my Sport Coupe's transmission, and would really appreciate any insight!
First off, with the car off the trans won't release out of Park when shifted into Neutral. That's especially weird since last week it wouldn't engage into Park and I had to use the E-Brake to lock the car. If the car is running and is shifted into gear, it'll take right off! So I'm not sure why it's only remaining locked in Neutral.
Second, the car drives great, shifts great, and has plenty of power at first, but as you drive it it'll start to lose power, and will get to a point where with the throttle down you're not going any faster than idle (I haven't done this much to avoid any damage). If you shut park the car and let her sit for awhile (like overnight) she'll have her full power again and the cycle repeats. The only thing I can think of is there's something wrong with the parking system, won't release in neutral and engages again in Drive, then somehow disengages while sitting. It'll also usually appear if i shift from Drive to Reverse, then back again. I guess because on the way I have to pass through Neutral?
I've found 3 possible causes-
1: The TV Cable is a bit lose at the plastic connector on my throttle, but not enough to the point i think it could cause major issues. The on the bottom of the throttle is also missing it's retaining clip, but doesn't look like it was designed to move with the throttle anyhow, only open it.
2: The rubber boot on my shifting cable where it passes through the body is broken, and could've misaligned the cable somehow?
3: When I first got the car running I accidentally hit a stump while moving the car, this bent the metal cross beam below the transmission (Don't hate on me, I was blinded by the joy of finally bringing this car back from the dead!
). I'm grabbing a replacement the next time I'm at the junkyard. I'm really hoping this didn't cause any damage, but what could've happened? I've put less then 10 miles on the car since then and it was doing the losing power thing immediately after, though since this was the first time I had the car running I can't say if it's always done this.
Again I really appreciate any insight, Summer's coming and this Camaro wants to hit the beach!
Many thanks guys

Small sigh of relief- I've done more research and since my car threw me a Code 44 / Running Lean awhile back (but went away) I'm wondering if the car is just going into Limp Mode for some reason. Still doesn't explain the thing with Park though

You might want to check the linkage and the cable mount at the trans. You got some adjustment issues

Heya Bob I appreciate the reply- I got the car up in the air today to check the linkages and took a video while I shifted it in the car, looked to shift fine. I wobbled the mount at the trans some and the funny thing is when I got it on the ground it shifted into Park and Neutral and back just fine! So I take the car out and it seems to do fine, a bit slow from a standstill but this is a 2.8
Drove fine for a bit but then just like always, there was a small cloud of white smoke and the car played it's usual game. Wouldn't move faster than idle. I shut her off and raised the hood and see the smoke is coming from the back of the engine, but didn't notice any leaks. I know I have a small coolant leak, so maybe it's just finding it's way down the back of the engine and onto the hot exhaust pipe. It's just funny how as soon as there's this smoke the car loses power. Could the car just be going into Limp Mode for some reason or could something more serious be wrong? After I shut her down she wouldn't go into Neutral anymore too....What do you guys think?
