Help Installing Shiftworks Shift Cable

Good morning,

I ordered my Shiftworks cable for my 1987 Camaro 305 TPI, B&M 700R4 almost a year ago and attempted to install it last night. Last year I installed a spare stock cable without to many headaches, but when upgrading to this cable it appears to be a little more complex.

My troubles are around how to adjust the bulkheads. As you can see in the pictures there are threaded bulkheads and I am not sure where I should have them. When I had the old cable off the car and sitting beside the new cable I thought I would thread the bulkheads so that they would be in the same position as the old cable. I think this is where I went wrong.

With the transmission and shifter both in Neutral, I installed the new cable. When I was testing the shifts the cable didn't want to put the car into Park. I think I need to thread the bulkheads back down to give the cable more slack.

Please let me know of your suggestions and I will try it again tonight. Thanks very much everyone.

Re: Help Installing Shiftworks Shift Cable

Good morning,

I may have made a little progress with the adjustments last night but still need to figure some things out. I found a video online giving tips on how to adjust a B&M shift cable so I will try some of those tips this weekend. I am not familiar with the threaded adjustments so am having difficulty there. Right now I can't shift into 1st gear, and the video online suggests having the shifter and transmission in 1st gear when you adjust the threads, so I will give that a try.

As a last resort, if I can get the car into Park and Drive then I can take it to a transmission shop for them to do the adjustments, as I am sure they are more familiar than I am.

Re: Help Installing Shiftworks Shift Cable

Good afternoon,

I called in professional help, and within minutes everything was adjusted. I guess I was close, but just couldn't get everything lined up.

I opted to install a different bracket, and that allowed for easier access to adjust the bulkhead as well. This bracket had been on my car originally but for some reason it was swapped years ago and I don't remember why. It bolts up slightly differently than the previous bracket.

Anyway, all seems good. I need to go for a good drive now to test out the shifter, but first impressions are good.
