What gear would I need for this 700r4 with 3.42 diff and 215/65/R15 tires?

So I've finally decided it's time to change the gears however there's a problem. I've got 3.42 and 26" tires. A combo I've found is 15t and 40tooth. But the vss won't hold a 40tooth gear. How far off would the speedo be with a 39 tooth gear? Is there an adapter somewhere for a 40-45 tooth to be able to fit in the vss?
