Correct Location Clutch Master Cylinder Hole in Firewall
***Found this pic online of someone doing the same swap
Hello,
We are converting my friends 91 TA to manual trans, T56. He got new pedals from Hawks I believe and we have a couple correct masters etc.
I looked at pics online and diagrams but cant seem to find "exact" measurements for the hole. Does it just have to be in the general ballpark as it is pushing fluid is all and just needs some smooth geometry for the master.
We appreciate any and all advice, pics, templates. Also if anyone is local we would be up for checking out someones car, take measurements etc for the location.
Regards, Tim

Re: Correct Location Clutch Master Cylinder Hole in Firewall
Put the booster in place.
Hang the pedals from the booster studs.
Your first pic is a stamped steel pedals brace,
The second shows third gen pedal support rods.
Push the brace you have up against the firewall.
Tap up with the lightest hammer you have. Make sure it isn't shoved left or right.
Mark the two bolt holes. Drill those.
The used master cylinders may have gaskets with the pattern of the firewall. Use that to drill the big hole for the master.
When the master fits in, and the u-bolt for the master lines up with the two outer holes, you're good.

Re: Correct Location Clutch Master Cylinder Hole in Firewall
I think I understand what you are saying, just want to make sure I have it straight.
So the holes in this brace, are where the master cylinder u bolt will end up (with U end of bolt being in engine compartment). Also with this being the case this small diameter stud currently poking through one of the holes is incorrect, think we popped it on to help hold while mocking up a few weeks back.
So with pedals mocked up, tapping this brace up lightly will help it land correctly on the firewall so we can drill U bolt holes then hole for the body of master cylinder.
Are the pedal support rods required, not sure if they came with pedals.
Thanks, Tim

Yeah, basically.
Mock up the pedals and master outside the car. You will find the master rod length to meet the stud on the clutch pedal (or swing the pedal a small amt. to line them up.)
The steel rods weren't used in 4th gens; they went to the stamped metal in your post #3 pic.
Try to avoid drilling too low.
