LT1 swap onto a T5 from an 89 RS
LT1 swap onto a T5 from an 89 RS
I am currently swapping a 1993 LT1 into my 89 RS that came factory with a 305 and T5 tranny. I have heard of the swap being done, but have not heard of anyone having clutch issues with the way the LT1 lines up to the T5 clutch. Could anyone tell me if they have encountered any issues? ThanKS in advance!

It's all a bolt-up.
Use the flywheel, clutch, & bell housing from the 305.

The back of the Gen II LT1 is carryover from the 86-03 Sbc Gen I.
Same seal. Same crank balance. Same flexplates. Either starter will work.
The manual LT1 in 1993 had an 11 or 17 tooth reluctor VSS. An 89 RS will have a different, far fewer pulse per mile signal. So what you do from here depends on whether you are using the 93 ECM or keeping 89 engine control.

I will be getting the ecm from the LT1 flashed for the 5 speed since it was set up for an auto from the factory, and I'm hoping everything else is smooth sailing as far as putting the T5 and LT1 together. Thanks for the info jmd, much appreciated
