I can't tell if my 700R4 is downshifting when floored??...
I usually drive in OD, but today I decided for a little peppiness, so I put it in D. I went on the highway with my car like usual going home, sometimes if I see a friend to race or taunt, I give it gas, but I haven't really floored it fully yet... i dont really need to... 5.7ltr hehe
. But any way today I was on the highway in D, and I'm really bored, lots of open space and slow cars, so I floor it to get myself moving, and ya kno I move faster, but I don't feel that "kick" ya kno when ya floor it and it downshifts ya can feel it. When I drive my dads car and sisters SUV they both downshift when I floor it, but maybe its because those are 6 cylinder cars?? I have 2.77 rear gears, maybe this has to do with it?? I even tried it again, shut the radio off, moved into right lane, I was going around 70mph @ like 2000rpm, then I floor it, and now I'm going 90mph @ like 3-3500rpm, I still got so much more rpm left, why didn't it downshift?? I had my tranny mounts fixed a week ago, maybe the TV cable got messed up and it nots opening fully?? Also my tranny is leaking a little bit, a seal isn't working, I havea replacement seal now, but haven't put it on yet, but the fluid is still full. I really don't know, but I miss that "kick" of acceleration when flooring cars when they downshift, but I don't feel it. Is it because my car has a superior transmission to theirs and it doesn't need to downshift?? Or is there a problem, why doesn't it downshift?? Please any help would be appreciated, thanks a lot.

To answer the question...look at your tach. If the revs dont go up it aint downshifing. I'd bet its the TV cable. There is a tech article on how to adjust it. Very Easy. If its not that then time to visit the trans shop.

What's happening is, when you're in OD and you floor it the 700R4 is designed to kick down into D at 1/2 throttle I believe. But now since you're already in D and you floor it, it won't downshift because you're already in D.
I went back on the road, and tried both D and OD, and while going like 30 and flooring it I feel it downshift. But I went on the highway and in both D and OD, I didn't feel any downshift, I floored it at like 70mph, the key word is feeling it, I'm used to cars that "kick" down to a lower gear and launch. My car just feels like its launching in the same gear not in the lower gear. I'm very testy with things I don't understand, I'm getting annoyed, please someone help me out, is it possible that gears shift too smoothly I never feel this "kick"??
Cmon guys you all drive these 3rd gens with the 700R4 trannies, try it out on your car and tell me how your transmission (in stock form) reacts to being floored. Whats a good way to really test that the the tranny is or is not downshifting.

Well, the tach reading mentioned above will tell you, the rpms should raise a lot when it downshifts. Try transfixleos method of adjusting the TV cable, just look for similar posts.
