Re: Rare Dana 44

Looks great! And with all of those other parts, too. Nice find.

Really wanted one of those for my 1983 Z28 L69 back then. In retrospect, though, glad I didn't get one, as the car was stolen in early 1986, and the insurance company probably would not have paid me more than they did because of the Dana. "Parts is parts," ya know.

Re: Rare Dana 44

Neat. Too bad about the Delco Morraine calipers. Looks like all the brake parts are early thirdgen stuff.

Is it bad I'd rather read the manual just for entertainment than own the parts?

Nope, When I got my Nos Recaros I did not even go for the seats when I opened the box for the first time. I was looking for all that rare paperwork.

Yeah, Those brake parts could hit the dumpster for all I care. The dana is cool to see like that for sure.

Re: Rare Dana 44

I would never be able to talk myself into spending that kind of money when I could spend half that for a stronger axle assembly. Jeepers.

Re: Rare Dana 44

Looks nice but for that price you could buy an even better 9" or 12 bolt.

Even with all the extra stuff included, I don't think it's worth more than $600

Back in the 80's, that was the performance diff to get. With what's available in the aftermarket, that's not a performance diff any more.

Agreed. I was trying to rationalize what I would pay for it, and I was settling around $500-$600 also. It's nifty because it's better than a 10 bolt and it bolts right in, but there's soooo much better out there for less money in the aftermarket.

Re: Rare Dana 44

That rearend is selling for around 1-1500 or so used in most deals I've seen. Sure you may get lucky and pay less but with this you'll also be paying the nos vintage speed parts tax. I'm thinking 3k ish up/down would be the number it'll change hands at.

Re: Rare Dana 44

I *might* think that was reasonable if they were originally installed in our cars and you needed to replace one in your car. But since they weren't, I fail to see the value.

Re: Rare Dana 44

GM used them as a warranty rearend for exploded/troublesome rearends and it was in the GM performance parts catalog. That's where the special value "tax" is added.

Re: Rare Dana 44

I understand the thought process behind it, but in my head it fits into the same category as gold toilet seats.

To each their own.
