Why no endplay after rebuild?

So I'm almost finished with my v6 700r4 rebuild .
Just waiting on a shift kit. But when I install the pump, I have no end play. I can still turn the input shaft easily both ways. The ONLY major part I replaced was the sunshell with the upgraded hardened one from gm. Before I disassembled I had good amount of end play.
Stock washer is # 69 that sits on the input drum. When I installed the input drum into the case I made sure the reverse drum was sitting on the sunshell.
Then I pulled the input shaft up and down to check for the play it's supposed to have. But when I install pump I have no end play? Is this expected?
I replaced every seal, bushing, clutches and steeles. I ordered some of these "700R4 4L60E Pump stator to input drum shim .015".
Sonnax 77409-15" just incase.

I was thinking maybe I didn't install the input drum all the way down past the last clutch?
I'm gonna check evrything again.

Spoke to soon. I was checking endplay with the trans horizontally. I checked it vetical and it has some endplay but seems like very little. Hmm.

Re: Why no endplay after rebuild?

Same thing happened to me when i built my first 700r4 years ago. need to check end play with input shaft pointed to the sky. get a dial indicator to get an accurate measurement. I think .015" to .036" is "spec". IIRC, you can run the 4L60Es to a tighter .005" i've been told it's ok to run the 700s that tight but don't quote me on that.
