G92 Performance Pkg

I have the G92 performance package option on my Iroc. I was wondering is this just a lower rear end ratio or is this a stronger rear end than standard? For those that have done LS or LT swaps, can you use stock rear ends like the G92? What HP are they good to? Eventually would want to go rear end and suspension upgrades but it looks like that will be over $10K through DSE for middle of the road options.

Re: G92 Performance Pkg

The rear itself is identical to any other non-G92 rear of the same year and axle model, with the exception of the gear ratio. It is good to the same horsepower (not a whole lot) as any other rear of the same model (9-bolt or 10-bolt). The exact ratio varied; it was often 3.45 or 3.42 in a stick car instead of 3.08 or the like, or 3.23 or 3.27 in an auto one instead of 2.73 or 2.77. The 90-up (roughly... it isn't a sharp cutoff like that makes it seem) 10-bolt version of it is essentially identical to the LT1 & LS1 versions, except that the LS1 ones got a Zexel Torsen differential instead of the crappy Auburn. It's not exactly the best candidate for any major high-power applications. The 89-back 10-bolt is worse, hopeless for any serious use of any kind.

Although G RPO codes are used for rear axle options, in various years, various other things were included with it as a "package". For example in some years it got the dual-cat exhaust.

There are MANY rear axle and rear suspension upgrades that can be done for ONEHELLUVALOT LESS than $10k, and MANY other sources besides DSE. It all depends on what your purpose and intent for the car is.

Re: G92 Performance Pkg

The 10K was front and rear suspension as well as rearend. Most rear ends I have seen are around $3K. I dont think you want to do rear end without suspension upgrade. Where are these cheaper options that are new and not used? What is the stock HP rating for a rear end? I know what the motors made but I would expect the rear end could handle more that what the stock motors made.

Couldn't say anything about "rating". Wouldn't matter anyway; you can tear one up with a 6-cyl, yet they go hundreds of thousands of miles behind LS1s. What tears em up most reliably is SHOCK loading - clutch dumps, trans brakes, power-shifting - especially combined with traction.

There are DOZENS of "options", HUNDREDS even. All depends on what you plan on doing with the car. For some uses, some of those are perfectly to the point; for others, they're inadequate; for others, they're COMPLETE OVERKILL; for yet others, some will HURT the car rather than HELP it. All depends on your goals and purpose. With HONESTY and REALITY as your guide; not abuncha starry eyes and "all the fast cars..." kinda talk. None of us can point you in the right direction without knowing that.
