Car: 1987 Chevrolet IROC-Z Camaro
Engine: LB9 > L98 5.7-liter V-8 TPI
Transmission: MD8 4-Speed Automatic MX0
Axle/Gears: GU5 3.23 G92
Transmission TH700R4
When I shift my automatic transmission (TH700R4) into drive, it hits so hard that it chirps the rear tires and other times it feels like its going to twist the driveshaft right off the u-joint. Now keep in mind that this only happens when I shift into drive. The transmission always responds appropriately when shifting into reverse. When i bought the car, the guy told me that he had the transmission rebuilt... could there be an issue with the rebuild?
Where should i start to look?
Help!

Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Re: Transmission TH700R4
Sounds like the idle speed is high.
What is that, as measured with ACTUAL test eqpt, NOT the wavy-pointer "trim package" eye candy in the dash?

Re: Transmission TH700R4
That's … high-ish, but not extreme. Assuming of course, that the # you quoted was from TEST EQUIPMENT, and not from the thing in the dash, which is VIRTUALLY ALWAYS inaccurate - to the high side - in these cars. IOW it tends to read higher than the actual ENGINE RPM. I had one at one time that read 3 TIMES the actual RPMs.
The ECM regulates the idle speed by varying the Idle Air Control motor, on the throttle body. It should be something more in the 600-650 RPM neighborhood.
Getting the idle set right might help.
Otherwise, someone probably has left out accumulator springs, left out the one check ball related to the forward clutch accumulator, or that sort of thing. Typical backyard "improvements" that people make.

I'm willing to bet that some idiot left out the transmission parts you described.
