8.8 vs 12 bolt

I've been searching all day and mainly only found comparisons to the 8.8 and the 9", but not the 8.8 vs 12 bolt. I'm gathering the parts for my LS3/T56 swap for my '88 IROC and I'm trying to figure out what rear end to go with. I keep hearing a lot of good things about the Ford 8.8 however, it's about $650 more than a 12 bolt strange. My LS3 will be making about 475 rwhp. I guess what my question is, is the parasitic loss between the 8.8 and 12 bolt that much different/worth $650? I'm assuming not because they're based on the same design? Any input between these 2 rear ends would be greatly appreciated!
