converting an 82 over to a T5

I getting prepared to convert my 82 LU5 V8 from automatic to T5. I have an 85 Firebird (V8) that I'm using as a donor. Are there any floorboard issues I need to be aware of? I know that the floorboard design was changed in 83. Does anyone know why? Also, the donor transmission has 90,000 miles on it. The previous owner (a good friend) said it shifted fine. Should I put it in as is, or should I rebuild it while I have it out?
Thanks,
Ken

I don't know about any floorboard changes, but swapping over my 82 was pretty straight-forward. Read the tech article here, it'll give you a really good idea of what you're getting into. Good luck.
