Need advice on 700r4 trans...
i bought an 85 IROC that had been sitting in a field for 14 years and i recently got the motor running in it. Just for fun i tried driving the thing, and transmission is definately gonna need some work...
When i shift into the OD with the car stopped and my foot on the brake the car dies. It doesn't do this when any other gear is selected. When driving it feels like the trans is slipping wildy, and i imagine it is...
Obviously it's gonna need to be rebuilt but heres the thing- the car only has 1300~ miles on it, so all logical thought would bring me to the conclusion that nothing can be really worn out, theres just things like seals and stuff that are probably dried out and rotten. I have little knowledge of the internals of the 700r4, so i won't be able to do any kind of rebuild on it myself. My main question here, is what do you think it would cost to have rebuilt? Would i be better off finding a used tranny and using that instead?
Lastly, how many splines are the input shafts on these things?

I have seen trannies stall when put in Reverse but never Drive. I would not rule out an engine problem either. How about the gas? Has it been in there 14 years? Is there moisture in it? Do you get any troble codes when this occurs?
I would not change to another tranny but I would update the internals to better components.

i put a new gas tank and fuel pump in it over the summer so it's not bad gas. the only code im getting is a "34" which is something to do with low vaccuum at the MAF sensor or something. Could that be affecting anything?
