9 bolt 2 vs 3 series carrier difference

Does anyone know the flange height difference between the 2 and 3 series carrier? I did a bunch of searching but I couldn't find the answer.

I got this "unknown carrier" off Amazon in hopes that it is a usable helical carrier like the one in the other threads. I don't have another 3 series carrier to compare it against, I just have the 2 series in the picture and another 2 series in the spare axle housing I picked up, the tag says it is a 2.77.
Anyway this is the difference. It is about 3/8", just under, I can't find my verneir caliper to measure accurately. I am not above pressing bearings onto the new carrier and trying it to see if it works, but if this is definitely wrong I would rather return it and not have any issues.

Also there might be a source for 3 series gears, 3.7, 3.9 and 4.11 gears new. The ring gear on the new carrier seems to be correct. If the carrier is correct I will pull the other axle housing apart and get stuff mocked up as soon as the heat breaks. I am dying any time I have to leave the house

If this works out I'll post the details in one of the other threads.

3/8" is about right butt I don't know the exact difference.

2 series flange must be located farther from the pinion center since the pinion itself must be larger. AFAIK there are only 2 series and 3 series available for that rear. You have carriers there with 2 obviously different flange locations, so 1 is clearly 2 series and 1 is 3 series. 2 on the left, 3 on the right. AFAIK 3.08 on down are 2 series, 3.27 up are 3.

Re: 9 bolt 2 vs 3 series carrier difference

Thanks for the quick reply. I figured this might be right, but I wasn't sure if the flange was closer to the pinion by a lot or just a little bit. The listing for this carrier says BW Skyline and a whole lot of other cars. I crossed what I could find from the other two threads on the application list and this one had some crossovers. I paid $282 delivered, which is a lot cheaper than importing one from Australia or even the ebay listings, on Amazon and it's pretty easy to return stuff to Amazon so I figured I'd give it a try.
Both the 2 series ring gear and the new 3.7 ring I have fit on the carrier as I would expect and the bolt holes seem to line up, so I think the gearset is also going to work

Maybe this weekend I'll get the bearings pulled off that 2 series and hone the centers out so I can slip them on the new carrier and be able to mock it all up without having to press any bearings on. I think I made a slip on pinion head bearing already when I put the rear together that is in my car,

Any update?

Edit: Thanks for the update.

Not yet. It's too hot for me and I barely get any work done in the heat. I have been trying to get some stuff cleaned up so I can move projects into the house though, that should help me get stuff done
The gears should be arriving today though

That's almost certainly a bot. Not worth replying to. At least "it" chose a masculine random CamelCase userID for a car BBS; alot of them can't even manage that much imitation "intelligence".
