Torque Arm Tension

After search I am more confused.

I have IROC on 4 jack stands from frame (rear axle hanging).
Do I remove the bolts on the the front (transmission) or the rear (axle) first to release the tension?
thanks in advance.

First question... what are you trying to do? You might not have to remove it at all, maybe just take it loose at one end or the other.

If you get another pair of jack stands, and jack the rear end up an inch or so (just enough to where the shocks compress a little bit), and support the rear axle there with the jack stands under the axle tubes, there will be virtually no force at all in any dorection on the torque arm. Remember, under the axle tubes, not any other part; not the brackets, not the pumpkin, not anything else, just the axle tubes themselves.

I am pulling the engine and transmission (together I hope).
I am already using 4 stands and not wanting to purchase 2 more.
Carlsbad is great area of CA.

I used two ramps in the front and two jackstands on the frame rails in the rear. Then I used my spare jack (I know, most people don't have that) to jack the rear up 1/2 inch. Then I loosened (but didn't remove) the 3 bolts holding the bushing bracket on the transmission end, and removed the two bolts on the rear diff. Tap to the side with a hammer and pull towards the rear.... done.

And it'd be a lot easier if you kept the diff in the same position while the torque arm is out, for when reinstallation time comes around. But you can let the rear sit on some blocks or something to keep it from hanging and use the jack for other things. (I did.)

Or you cna do like me and break the torque arm before you remove it. There's no tension at all when you do it that way.

just let the rear end hang free and unbolt the two bolts on the rear end. then the torque arm just slides back. no need put a jack under the rear.

I put a jack under it because the brake line gets pretty tight when I let it hang down. Maybe I just have a short line. =/
