diffrence in 82-86 700r4 and 87-92

Just wondering if there are any differencs that I need to know about. I have a 92 RS and the tranny is getting ready to go, I also have a 86 iroc that was totaled and I had just had that tranny replaced with a new one. Will the 86 tranny hook up in the 92.. I know that there is a plug on th side of the 86 tranny but I haven't been underneth my 92 to see if it is the same.. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

92 RS 25th anniversary, hawaian orchad with silver heritage package, ascd SS hood, 305 TBI, msd 6a ignition, flowmaster.

All I know, The only visible diiference would be the 89 and older cars run speedo cables and the 90+ run electric ones.

The 1992 has all the upgrades, that the 1986 did not have, bigger input sprag, wider low/reverse sprag, smoother neutral to drive engagement, slightly larger boost valves, etc.

What do you mean by the 86 tranny having recently been replaced by a new one? It wasn't just rebuilt was it? Newer ones (even rebuilt newer ones) usually have the upgrades, especially if it is from a reputable tranny place. You would have to check the spline counts, and swap the electric speedo stuff to the new tranny, though.

I don't think the 86 has the 4th gear switch, that lets the ECM know it's in high gear. Confirmation?
