My rear differential is making noise??...
Hey all, I've noticed this sound before but never knew where it was coming from. Its when I make a turn like 90 degree turn, I hear a "whirring", first I thought it was the power steering pump, they're loud, and kind of "whine". But today, I had my music down, and turning slow in the parking lot, and I could hear this whirrrr whirrrr whirrrrrrrr noise. It happens EVERY time I turn. It sounds like its coming from behind me.. my differential? gears? posi? I went around in a circle in a parking lot, and it kept making the noise. The sound is like a combination of "whirrrrr", a zipper zipping up, and bubbling water, if that helps
. What is this noise? Whys it there?? Any help would be appreciated.
..Oh BTW, today I was going down a hill, and missed my turn, and since no one was around, I decided to stop, and reverse back up the hill into a driveway to turn around... but for some reason I pushed the gas, and there was mutliple THUMPS coming from the rear. Did I hit the gas too early, that the gear didn't engage just yet? What happened there??

It could be the u-joint going bad.
I would take the cover off and inspect the ring gear also. Missing teeth can cause that too.

I was thinking maybe I didn't let the car fully shift into reverse, or maybe I was rolling down the hill, and the gear didn't mesh or something. See the thing is, if I slowly push on the gas in reverse, its just fine. But sometimes if I hit it hard, it has like hesitating tendency and kinda thumps, weird.
BTW, if it is bad ring gears and stuff, that mean I can get new gears?
Cool, now my car can move quicker... however I have a 9 bolt
. Where would I ever find them?? Thread
