not sure if this is the correct board but here goes.
this past weekend when our F-assn was comeing home from the beach bend bash in bowling green i filled up and re set my trip.
well when we were getting close to memphis i looked at my trip.
it was reading like 193 miles and i KNOW we had gone further than that. its 210 mi to nashville from memphis . and about 71 mi from nash to BG.
what is causing this mis read?. how can i fix this , or is it fixable?

When you release the button, the mechanism is held against the gears by a little plastic J-hook, molded into the speedo frame, on each side. Over time, these little J-hooks will weaken, even break at the base. Sounds like yours is on the verge of failure.

I had mine apart trying to figure this all out. I figured I could glue the hooks back into place - Hah!. I've heard of guys drilling a tiny hole where the J-hooks were, bending and cutting a paper clip to the proper shape and size, and epoxying it into the holes to repair. Haven't pulled mine apart to try (keep thinking "140 mph"...).

yeah five7 is right those stupid little j hooks are crap i broke a couple of them, next time i go into my dash i am just going to take some solid core 12-2 wire and bend it around the ends of the trip odometer shafts and loop it around the back of the speedo assembly there is a little room behind it and the 12 wire is strong enough to hold it. not a very hard fix at all just be careful if you go to take the needle off of the speedo find a way to mark where it was or the speedo will be off. also be careful not to break the shaft the needle presses on to, just pull the needle straight off, it takes a little effort. I broke mine and had to get new speedo assembly and transplant some parts.
