Christmas in June....hehe, need suggestions...

Alright, so a funny thing happed. Its funny now, becuase it works out for me. Way back in Feb. I switched car insurance companies...and the new was supposed to cancel my old one for me. Well to make a long story short, they never did and I didn't know....so I have been paying two car insurance companies for the last 4 months!! I didn't realize it cause I had signed up to have the money automatically taken out of my account. ANYWAY....

So now I get a suprise check for $500+ that I didn't know that I would be getting. So whats the first thing that comes to mind when I get free money....of course, THE 'BIRD. By looking at my sig what should I invest in next....looking for suggestions. Toying with either a Cat and Y-pipe....or cam and timing chaing (and if i do that rockers....etc). But I think I have heard from someone that everyone he knows who did a cam and etc, blew thier tranny not much later becuause of the extra HP. What do you guy's think. I haven't done and upgrade in a while....and am kinda itchy.

btw....106,000 on the engine and tranny and couldn't run better!

(I should really be studying, but I don't want to... damn final.) Uh, well, I doubt you'll blow the trans with a cam! What year were these F-bodies? Early 80's 700r4's were junk compared to the '90-up models. In fact the least of the best 700r4's was in '87, when GM changed the fluid pump stator to prevent aeration (which was causing the fluid pump to run dry, which caused the trans to run dry, which eventually blew the trans.) Plus if they never maintained their transmissions with yearly fluid/filter changes....

My original '86 trans blew because of the fluid pump design. The second one blew because the torque convertor input flange cracked, and blocked a feed hole in the fluid pump. I don't have much luck with fluid pumps!

What's wrong with your current y-pipe? Are you doing the work yourself? If so, I'd say buy the cam/lifter kit ($160), buy the rocker/pushrod kit ($150), a timing chain kit ($90 for Cloyes), and a high flow cat ($80). Gaskets will be about $50. You could rent the tools for pulling/installing the balancer, and for pulling the crankshaft gear.
