I know this is an exhaust question but since its for a V6 and there seems to be trouble on finding parts for a V6 I thought this message was better suited in this board than the exhaust one...
Anyway.. my exhaust is some crap that someone just kinda pieced together on my car.. its totally rusted and falling apart.. the mechanic said a lot of the pipes are leaking and its leaking from the doughnuts (?)... So i'm thinking about replacing everything (ok maybe not the cat.. depends).. question is where/what exhaust will fit on an 86 Camaro Sports Coupe.. this one already looks like its falling off so I don't want to order just anything and hope it fits only to end up with another system that looks like its falling off.... and yes I did a search.. I only found a few things on people saying they got this and this muffler or this and this pipe.. but I want to know about replacing everything from the headers back.. hell maybe even newer headers... which makes me wonder if anyone has any pictures or reviews of the headers that are being sold in that sticky thread above...
* As a side note.. TomP.. can you post/link something to your 'major tuneup' guide.. I found a link in some old posts but when I clicked it the page it took me to was 'not found'

only bit of advice i can giove is to get some sort of catback and a high flow cat if you have the funds, dont know about beyond that too much,
and about the donuts leaking i think he means the gasket where the pipe bolts onto the catalytic converter... someone correct me if i'm wrong
hope this helps a bit

Here is a real inexpensive solution.
SEEK A USED EXHAUST SYSTEM FROM A LATE MODEL F BODY.
The stuff you'll buy will be larger pipes & almost free.
No one wants the stuff. Find it in muffler shop trash bins
With my 1995 3.4 swap (one for the Blazer) I got a 50K mile "Y" pipe & convertor.
IT looks brand new. AND LARGER BY 1/2"
I do know the Intermediate pipe from a V-8 F body is larger than the stock old 6 stuff. BY 1/2" usually!
AND IT's almost a slam dunk exhaust replacement from 4th body to 3rd body chassis for any compentent (important word) & WILLING muffler shop.
Add any muffler you like.
Seek this out.
I need to replace my 85 Firebird system, That's what I'm doing.

Click on the search button in the upper right hand corner of this screen, below the sponser ads. Search for "Major Tuneup", message by TomP, in the V6 forum.
The donuts are between the exhaust manifold and Y-pipe. Usually it just takes a wrench to tighten the y-pipe-to-manifold nuts to seal that leak.
I have an AP Y-pipe, which happened to be mandrel-bent, cost me $180 back in '96. The cat and intermediate pipe (between cat and muffler) and muffler & tailpipes should be available anywhere locally, at a REAL parts store. The Dynomax Super Turbo cat-back is what I would recommend for a performance setup, part #WLK-17493 from summitracing.com .
