third brake light mod

Ok the 86 thirdbrake lights have four bulbs in them I was wondering if I could make the ones on the ends blick with the directional. I think I would need to replace them with the two filiment wires and then add the blinker wires to the second filliment. Is it that easy?

I take it you've seen what the bulbs look like inside the '86 stop light (only year to have it on the OUTSIDE top of the glass)? I didn't know they made those bulbs with dual filaments. I think it'd look cool, though. You might have trouble running the wires to the inside of the car; somehow, I think your only option is to drill through the glass. Either that, or hide a wire that runs up the top of the glass to the inside of the car.

Oh- if any of you '86 guys find out your defroster comes on when you hit the brakes, here's the deal. The wire has "fallen" from the window, and is resting on the hatchback window's gas strut. When you push the brakes, you're giving the defroster power. Solution? Resolder the third brake light wire to the hatch glass.

Nope wont work I can only make the hole thing blink becuase there is no way to get the wires to the bulbs. Maybe if I had the light on the fin I could get that to work.

I was thinking about this last night... know the two bolts that hold the '86 third brake light to the glass? What if you drilled a hole in the center of one? Would you be able to push thin wires thru the hole and into the third brake light housing? Just don't mess the torx hole up in the center of the bolt...

That'd be a lonnng drilling time, too....

THe brake light will have a contact plate for the third brake light on the plastic on the part buy the locking mec. It is not contacting right. Hey Tomp maybe If I found Wire like what they use for the defrost I coul run the wires up the glass and true the hole where to torx bolts are. I woul have to take my time and make sure I did not sracth the wire. The other way is to place a device that senses the blinkers using radio fregencies some what like a remote control.

yep, that window brake light sucks bigtime. it was one of the first things I removed, didnt work, would not work. I Just slaped a sticker over the two holes.

its legal if it does not work but the law says it must be there.
but screw em,

to not get pulled over, least in ohio.

you only need 1 tail light and 1 brake light.

and you only need the left head light to work. and if your turn signals dont work, just use your arm.

if you have two side mirrors, you can block out or paint over your rear window.

now I beleive you still must have a rear view mirror even if you cant use it. that is if they wanted to be a d!ck. but i think they can use that for an excuess to pull you over.

Check the connections, also, to that plate by the hatch latch. You can remove the rear hatch plastic panel with either a big screwdriver or one of your car keys. The '86 design completely sucked; it was GM's first attempt at a 3rd brake light, and that's why the light's changed for '87.
