Carb to MPFI
Carb to MPFI
I have a 2.8 carbed car, I just blew the motor so I went lookin for another one and I found a 3.4 out of a 95 camaro, and i was wonderin how hard it was to go from carbed to mpfi like what all parts do I need.
I'm sure the other guys will jump in and tell you how to do the swapp (MASSIVE mounts of wire swapping, ECM etc.) But may I suggest simply putting your carb manifold on the 3.4? Or getting the Intake manifold from Etelbrock? That way you could have it up and running, then do the TPI swap.

well lets see, i'd also recommend doing a carbbed swap on the 3.4L motor. But, i'd recommend that you upgrade your carberator with the edlebrock version 4bbl. might help you feed that lil' 3.4L a tad easier than you could with the stock 2 bbl in place.

Your going to have to do ALOT of wire tracing and swaping! I'm in the process of doing that now. I'm taking the MPFI engine/system out of an '87 Camaro and putting in my 2.8
powered Jeep. I E-mailed Painless Wiring about a wire harness to simplify this swap and this is what I got back: Contact FIS @ 210-654-0774. We do not make a harness for anything smaller than a
4.3L.
I havnt called the # they gave me yet, but I dont think there is a very high demand for 2.8 swap items

You'd need the whole intake system off the engine (throttle body, upper plenum (spider-shaped), fuel rail, injectors, lower plenum, intake manifold, fuel hoses). You'd need the distributor. You'd need the air flow sensor, depending on the year of the donor car (85-89 = MAF, 90-92 3.1 = MAP). You'll also need the electric fan and the air box temp sensor; might as well take the whole air intake tubing/filter box too. You'll need to drop the tank and put a sending unit in that can hold a high pressure fuel injection fuel pump. (Might be cheaper/easier to take the fuel tank of the donor car.) You'd need any "engine control" relays and fuses; some that come to mind are the fuel pump relay, mass air flow relay, fuel pump/ecm fuse holder, MAF fuse holderYou'll need the whole wiring harness from the passenger side of the engine compartment, and the ECM. You might want to take the donor car's radiator, too- the 85-92 V6 radiators were wider than the 82-84 V6 radiators. And by the time you finish all that, you might as well have swapped a V8 in!!
I agree with putting your carb'd intake setup on top of the 85-92 2.8/3.1 motor or 93-94 3.4 motor.
And if you want to go SFI (the 3.4's MPFI) you'll probably need more stuff; not too sure how the OBD2 works on the 4th gens.

Actually I will be doing this in the future.
I do so want to install the 1995 complete ingnition/induction SFI unit from the 1995 Camaro engine I'm swapping in.
BUT first,
I'm going to carb the mill & get going.
Easiest way to go to MPFI is to find a 85 & above donor car & swap that wiring and, etc.s
Get a basic foundation.
Wiring harnesses?

Turbo City in Orange, CA did an article how to swap in a 1985 MPFI onto a 1985 S-10 2.8 Blazer.
What do you think I'm gonna start, future MPFI foundation, with?
Subject My 1985 S-10 Blazer.
Article has complete wiring schematic....
Get information from them, probably still

Go basic, then solidify foundation them go forward.
LOT of swapping, but it's your mission.
