Y-Pipe and Cat Questions
I've got quite a lump sum of money from graduation and here are some of me thoughts. I definately wanna get a pair of the Spohn STFs when they start producing them again, but that put aside here is my other idea.
Right now I've got 2.5" cat-back exhaust. My cat is pretty rusty lookin, stock, and I'm sure it's robbing me of some power. My first question is which converter is the best? And what size in and out do I need?
This next part might change the answers to the last question above. I've heard of many of you replacing your y-pipe comming to the cat with I believe a V8 one? Or I think some of you went the custom fab route. Would this be a good idea to do as well? Would this mess up my O2 sensor readings at all?
Thanks for all your help guys, you're all helping to make my car such an amazing experience!!

Waved to my buddy yet on Newtown road in Breinigsville?
Here's what I suggest.
Find someone with a late model 4th gen exhaust that they want to remove.
Make sure it's new & clean.
Take that to a muffler shop & have them create a perfect system for ya.
I have a "Y" from a 1995 3.4 w/CC and at 50K miles, it's looks brand new.
PLUS it's 2 1/2" from engine manifolds to CC & 2 1/2" from there, too.
On my Blazer, 1985 version.
I installed a new CC & new flowmaster muffler.
We were able to reuse original 1985 issued pipes, cause they were CA aged perfect (this was done in 1991 or 92).
I look under my Blazer.
The shop made pipe has rust all over it.
The factory GM issued pipe that I reused, still perfect.
Meaning, try to score, FREE THROWAWAY OF A 4th Gen V-8 or V-6 exhaust. GREAT quality of metal piping!
Ask any muffler shop or any car dealers.
Lots of V-6 4th gens want to upgrade and throw away the exhaust. Try wrecking yards, too!
I know back there, is very limited, except for the Chevy/Toyota dealership close by.
I don't recall many muffler shops near Bethlehem or Breinigsville.
A hunt but, could pay off. The stuff is almost identical, the underside of both cars, easy fitting/alterating....
Add any muffler your choice.

Ked, Are they manderal bent or do they have the creases like are stock ones? ( the 4th gen units)
If not, I've been curious if anybody has used the V8 SLP y-pipes on a V6 and if they fit without fab work? Also, there are two different part #'s for the SLP y-pipes for third gen's, so the correct part # would be greatly appreciated also if this does work.

the pipe is more "mandrel bent" looking than cheap kinked like the 3rd gen pipe. Biggest differenance (besides the o2 bung) is how the 3rd gen pipe curves around to meet the cat, the 4th gen is basically a straight shot back. I guess that's why Karl took it to a shop. I'll be doing the same thing.
one more tranny line to bend & the 3,4 goes in! Yes, I am reusing the 2.8 timing teeth.

Yeah, these pipes I got are kink free.
I was really shocked/pleased.
I want to get the 4th gen exhaust so bad.
I have to hunt real well and ask around here, one day. Right now I have almost all parts for installing the 3.4 & tranny into my Blazer.
Tomorrow I want to install the tranny. I'll do the drive shaft u joints when I swap out rear axles.
I just scored a headliner, sunvisors, speaker cover sides, kick panels, rear floor mats, rear carpet, hinged back area, the carpeted back area & locks, color matching tan set belts, tan felt covers for the front seat side adjustments, TILT STEERING COLUMN!!!
Man that dresses up my Firebird interior so nice!
From some V-8 Camaro that just got in this guys yard.
Who says ya can't mix and match interiors?
As long as it's all tan colored, fine by me.
Anyone else paint their dash the interior color?
