v6 fuel question....

does anyone know what the round thing is on the 3.1 fuel system underneath the throttle body??? its after the flex hose but befor the fuel rail. it goes to only one line to the fuel rail just before it goes under the top plenum. if anyone knows what that is i would appreciatte it. the reason is i want to re-route the fuel lines if i can skip this round bottle looking thing.

that little silver drum? no clue. But if you want to redo the routing good luck, theres not alot you can do. I mean you can replace those hard lines with S/S Braid of course but, actual rerouting...?... Why comes to mind.

the reason is because i have a 3.1 in thee now and i did some work for a guy and he GAVE me a 3.1 with 75 original miles on it for the labor with the tranny as well. So i was looking around to see what i could find with rerouting the lines and i saw that drum thingy. what i wanted to do was use braided line fro the end of the hard line by the steering box and go up and around the engine by the distributor and swing back underneath the plenum. the only thing i don't know is what the little silver drum is. does it play any importance or can i bypass it with braided line like i want to????

That round thing is a fuel dampner. I suppose you could bypass it.....but i'm with camar_hunter_c.....WHY would you want to re-route?

it probly provides a "cushioning" effect of pressure from the tank. If you are looking to reroute to the rear of the engine where the connections actually are... Your goung to have to route from the front to the rear, cause the hard lines end at the front of the engine, and the lines enter the fuel rail at the rear. If you are concerned about looks, just take it off and polish it.

i've never seen it done on a v6 but if i use braided line from the hard lines to the rear it should look preety good. i just don't want to screw anything up with this fuel dampener thing. i'll have to call GM and see what it does and what the effects would be if i bypassed it.
