???

I have a 88 little v6 maro. I have a strange question about my crazy little six. When I start my car after the car has been sitting for a few days or has fully cooled down after driving the weirdest thing happens, the car actually moves very quickly. The car can spin tires and accelerates very quickly. But once the car starts heating up(about 300 sec after I started it) starts to run like pooh. The car always drives and accels bad, but I don't know why it is so quick when it first starts. I have a feeling that the cold thick oil is playing a part in this, but I have no clue what I'm talking about. Can someone clue me into what my cars problem?

Probably because when you first start the car it's running in open loop according to data stored in the prom and has extra fuel enrichment from the cold start, but when it heats up and relies on readings from the exhaust and intake to run.. well I guess I'll just say that your computer can only run as well as the data it recieves. If some sensors, or even one sensor, are giving the computer bad data - the oxygen sensor, for example, the car will not run as well as it should. This could be any number of different sensors or only one, probably not the MAF sensor because I believe that is actually used during open loop, but it could still be a problem. Could be a bad coolant sensor as well. If your computer is throwing any codes, that would be a good place to start.

You went for a Pat's or Gino's Cheese Steak
And you were still feeling good for those first few seconds.
That's why your ride ran so good upon start up.
What are the outside weather conditions when this happens?
I heard it's starting to get chilly.
You close by cool Delaware Water air?
Imagine a Carb car set up running this good first thing, then dying upon warm up!
Ain't MPFI great?
Totally sensor related

re

I talked to my mech and he doesn't think it's sensor related. I had the o2 and maf replaced a while ago. My mech thinks it has something to do with my cat?? And he said that my injectors usually inject more during cold start to get the car started, once again I'm car illiterate so I don't know if his points are valid.:lala:

He is NOT incorrect, also.
Keep searching and checking and asking.
You are on the right trails.

ignition ignition ignition, lots of people are complaining about this same probem. I've got the same problem. I BET the other thing you notice is a hesitation until you reach 2500 RPM then the thing wants to JUMP and go like hell. YEP working on it too, I'm going to try a MSD blaster coil 3. I've changed every sensor know to man and all THE tune ups in the world.

My conlusion is the stock coils put out a weak spark when the cylinders are under there most pressure (accerlarting) causing more resistance. I tryed a MSD GM blaster, didn't help becuase it doesn't produce any more voltage. The reason your super man is your in open loop and fuel mixture is on the rich side so it doesn' take much to light it.

I'll keep everybody posted.

That is "exactly" where the engine comes on the cam. The power "stops" at about 4500 RPM, too, yet one can keep reving engine.
The 2.8/3.1 cam is peaky.
In a 3.4 mill, the powerband is linear.
More torque and at down low RPMs.
